Great reference EXCEPT...

This edition of Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design is an excellent reference manual for mechanical engineers. The only problem is that the book description does not specify that it is in SI units only. I live in the USA and we rarely use SI outside of college. Again, this book is SI units only!

Thorough book on the design of machine components.

Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design book is a should have for any Mechanical Engineer or aspiring Mechanical Engineer. The first few chapters comment on material selection, material properties and fatigue, while the later ones comment on designing machine components (such as shafts, power screws, bearings and gears). However, the book lacks explanation on some methods that other Machine Components design books have, so other books should be used as complement.
